‘Te Mātaiaho and the English Language Learning Progressions – a weaving of the threads’.
About this Event

This workshop will discuss the challenges and opportunities of Te Mātaiaho for English language learners in Years 1-8, with a focus on the English learning area. It will unpack the English purpose statement and Understand, Know, Do elements through the lens of English language learning. It will explore relationships between the English Language Learning Progressions and the progress steps and outcomes of the refreshed English curriculum. It will also consider approaches and strategies for teachers to effectively support English language learners in their classes using the Common Practice Model.

  • You will increase your knowledge of practical strategies and resources to support English language learners
  • You will strengthen your ability to increase vocabulary, and support reading and writing
  • You will deepen your understanding of how the essential pedagogical approaches in Te Mātaiaho puts the strengths of learners at the centre.
