Please join us for this official Underground Texas Grotto Meeting on Wednesday October 1st at 6:30pm. We will be meeting at the Austin Public Library, Menchaca Branch, 5500 Menchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78745.
Eléonore will be presenting the following:
Since paleolithic cave paintings were rediscovered in the contemporary era, many interpretations have been suggested, from the banal (art for art's sake) to the far-fetched (autistic artists). With the succession of theories, many debunked or weakened over the years, a growing number of researchers adopted a defeatist position: we are too far removed from the time and cultures who produced these works to ever be able to interpret them.
However, a new, colossal study by researcher Jean-Loïc Le Quellec proposes a compelling theory based on mythology that could create a consensus. We'll start by looking at pictures and a couple of classic hypotheses, briefly present Le Quellec's reframing of the question and his methods, and finally, discuss his theory.
We will announce at the meeting where we will be congregate for the post-meeting social.
