Underground Railroad Exhibition - Oct. 1

The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers on the B&O Railroad examines the role of the physical railroad in the Underground Railroad network and gives an intimate look at the lives and journeys of 27 individuals who sought freedom from slavery along the B&O.

The exhibition is located in the museum’s historic Mt. Clare Station – a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site and the exact location through which eight Freedom Seekers, including Henry “Box” Brown and William and Ellen Craft, traveled. The exhibition also examines the Black travel experience during this time as well as the use of railroad terminology as a secret, coded language for Freedom Seekers. Visitors will be required to purchase museum admission with timed exhibition entry to ensure access to the exhibition. Your admission to the museum is valid anytime for the date purchased between 10 AM -4 PM.

Visitors are asked to proceed to the exhibition entrance only at the time of their entry pass. Visitors who do not have timed entry exhibition tickets are not guaranteed access to the exhibit. This is to ensure every visitor has a good experience.

Members may still enjoy their membership benefit of free entry to the museum and the exhibition. However, members still must reserve timed entry to the exhibit for free. Those who reserve free member tickets will be asked to confirm their membership upon entering the museum. New memberships, which include one year of free museum admission, may be purchased here.
