MacGuffins, Garages of Desire, Rhymes with Fish
An Adelaide 80s extravaganza. Glam punk meets garage pop meets avante-garde angst.
Three bands forged in the hazy daze of the Adelaide underground return for one gig at the Moshpit.
“We forget about our songs for 30 years. Then we remembered them” says Rhymes with Fish bassman Richard Upton, “now we’re having the time of our lives recording and performing the Rhymes with Fish back catalogue”. For their 2025 EP Behavioural Enrichment they convened in Adelaide to record 5 old songs with a fresh new sound.

Despite some band members spending time as far away as London, Ottawa and Perth, Garages of Desire have continued to play and record for 40 years. Dashlight Disco and Shoe Shop Girl, their latest releases on Bandcamp, reveal a return to roots with serves of power pop and swampy recollections of courtship in car seats.

Originally formed by four Adelaide expatriates living in Sydney and sharing a commitment to glam-punk, psychedelia and Shakespearean go-go, the MacGuffins are no strangers to Sydney venues. They return for their first gig of 2026 at the mighty Moshpit.
