In 2006, as war once again erupted in Lebanon—a country deeply scarred by years of conflict—filmmaker Philippe Aractingi felt a profound need to bear witness. Without hesitation, he embarked on his second feature film after Bosta. Under the Bombs was shot in the immediate aftermath of the conflict, placing two actors (the celebrated Georges Khabbaz and Nada Bou Farhat) at the center of the devastation in southern Lebanon. They acted alongside real people affected by the war—civilians, soldiers, and rescue workers—who played their own roles in this unfolding tragedy. This unique blend of fiction and reality, filmed on location with both improvised and scripted scenes. Released in 2008, the film garnered international acclaim, being selected in 40 festivals, including Venice, Sundance, and Dubai, and winning a total of 23 awards worldwide. This film powerfully mirrors the current reality in Lebanon.

Lorsqu’en 2006 une autre guerre éclate au Liban, Philippe Aractingi, habitué à filmer dans l’urgence, décide de tourner son deuxième long‐métrage après Bosta. Filmé deux jours après la fin du conflit, « Sous les bombes » place deux comédiens (Georges Khabbaz et Nada Bou Frahat) au cœur du drame, dans le Sud du Liban, face aux vrais acteurs de la guerre (civils, militaires, secouristes, etc.), qui incarnent leur propre rôle. Cette fiction tournée en décor réel, qui mêle scènes improvisées et écrites, a été distribuée dans une vingtaine de pays. « Sous les bombes » a été sélectionné aux festivals de Venise, Sundance et Dubaï et a remporté à ce jour 23 prix et a représenté le Liban aux Oscars. Ce film offre un reflet saisissant de la réalité actuelle au Liban.
