The UNCSA Symphony Orchestra and Cantata Singers, along with soloists from the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, perform George Frideric Handel's final oratorio, “Jephtha.”
The oratorio, with a libretto by Thomas Morell, tells the Old Testament tale of the outcast turned warrior who sacrifices his only daughter in return for victory. In declining health and losing his eyesight as he wrote this final major work, Handel’s struggle with his own fate is evident in the restrained beauty of this masterpiece. Faculty member James Allbritten, music director of the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute, will conduct.
