Uncovering: The Body, Ethics and Exchange through Tattooing
About this Event
Known for her richly layered paintings, drawings and mixed media sculptures, Marigold Santos has also cultivated a tattoo practice that exists in constant dialogue with her broader body of work. In this artist talk, Santos explores how tattooing intersects and integrates with her larger studio practice, opening new ways of thinking about drawing, image-making, and artistic exchange.
Tracing her journey from learning to tattoo through DIY mentorship and grassroots creative communities to building an ethical, community-centered practice, Santos reflects on the values that guide her work. Through stories of cultural heritage, accessibility, trust, and collaboration, she considers the unique relationships that emerge between artist and wearer, and how working with living bodies continues to shape her creative process.
