Uncle Fest 2026
“Uncle” James W. Brown
Aug. 1, 1959-May 22, 2026
Born and raised in Pueblo, Colo., James began his lifelong love of music in school bands. He graduated from Pueblo South High School in 1977 with varsity letters in Band and Bowling. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from ‘78-‘81 as a cook and Field Medic. He returned to Pueblo and played guitar and bass guitar in Rock, Heavy Metal, and then Country and Western bands. He moved to ABQ in 1999 and became involved in the Bluegrass Community. He played in many groups and combos and helped many aspiring artists learn guitar, mandolin, ukelele, electric and acoustic upright bass.
His “Uncle” title developed when he was playing in his early bluegrass combos with his nephew. That name stuck with him the rest of his life.
The 1st. Annual Uncle Fest will be held at the Canteen Brewhouse where he performed dozens of times during a couple of decades with many different groups. His last performance was the Album Drop show last fall with the Stray Dawgs. James retired for health issues and continued to compose music till his death. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and fellow musicians from all over the country.
Proceeds from “Uncle Fest” will be donated to local music education programs.
