Officially known as a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance with a concentration in Popular Music and Technology, the UNCG PopTech program offers students the chance to develop as performers, singer-songwriters, producers, beat-makers, and composers, all while strengthening their skills and knowledge in working with music technology.
The PopTech program is at the forefront of initiatives across the country that welcome young musicians to university music studies from fields like hip-hop, rap, R&B, pop, rock, film/video/gaming music, and more. These student musicians are serious about their work, and they are very good at it!
UNCG PopTech night will feature performances from three artists: Venus, Watch Party and Henry Cole & The Purple!
Venus is a quintet of college creatives blending soulful harmonies, melodic textures, and alternative influences into a euphoric, soul-speaking sound. Their music draws on the emotive power of gospel runs, the melodic pull of pop, and the depth of R&B to create something fresh yet timeless. Their debut EP, Flytrap, introduces Venus’ orbit: lush vocals, atmospheric grooves, and relatable lyrics. Soulfully, Venus invites audiences into a space where beauty, power, and vulnerability meet.
A skilled producer and lyricist from Durham, NC, Henry Cole inhabits the space between Hip-Hop, R&B, House, and Alternative Electronic music. Known for thought-provoking social commentary and introspective narratives, Henry Cole has carved out his own lane with three acclaimed EPs ('Dreamland Electronica’, 'JV', and ‘i CAN’T sit ST!LL’). Following the recent release of his 2025 mixtape “I CAN’T sit ST!LL” Henry is playing shows with his live backing band throughout NC, coming to a city near you soon!
Watch Party is a band based outside of Greensboro, North Carolina. They create a blend of ambient soundscapes, dark-gritty rock and roll, with the high energy required to break the mold as a young and hungry band.
