STATEMENT

Ethereal and metaphysical narratives of feminine divinity, divination, shadow work, and spiritual ascension practices meant to break the taboos and stigmas of all that is unknown, feared, and mistaken.

“UNCERTAINTY REALMS, The Art of the Unknown” one-night semi-formal exhibition runs: Saturday, December 11th, 2021 from 7pm – 10pm with music performance by one of Orlando’s most reputable DJs, DJ Nela.

Henao Contemporary Center is pleased to present emerging contemporary artist Desiree Ruiz, for her first solo show “UNCERTAINTY REALMS, The Art of the Unknown”, featuring a collection filled with metaphysical symbolism.

Her signature oil crystal studies and ethereal female portraits are all a combination of the natural healing properties of stones tied to feminine divinity, shadow work, divination and spiritual ascension practices, and the what if's of the afterlife and the unknown viewed through a lens full of hope and transcendentalism.

A main component in her work are her own experiences with 'shadow personalities' which she embodies through female portraiture as her way of studying, understanding, and visually representing those 'negative' parts of ourselves we hide from the world, and often times, even subconsciously from ourselves. Her series seeks to transcend the darker aspects of ourselves by first creating a coexistence between you and your shadow fueled by compassion, empathy, and acceptance.
