Agenda
We have been here before: Surviving Well in a time of Political Crisis
Host: Dr. B. Nilaja Green
Info: Although many Americans voted for the current administration, nearly half of the country did not. Many are reeling from the unpredictable, changeable and drastic measures the United States has been experiencing since Inauguration Day 2025. Black women, a marginalized group that has always advocated (often on the frontlines of equity movements) for social justice, find themselves in the unique position of living in a country under rule that most Black women voters overwhelmingly did not support. This workshop addresses the varying ways that Black women can call on historical and present resources to effectively manage the unprecedented stressors of this time, using frameworks based in Womanist resistance movements and the psychology of survival.
Igniting Their Thrive: A Guide to Fueling Radical Rest & Liberation
Host: Dr. Telsie Davis
Info: This workshop illuminates the insidious ways systemic racism erodes the mental, physical, and psychosocial reserves of Black women. We will explore the vital concept of "radical rest" as a powerful antidote to the chronic burden of racial injustice. Therapists will gain immediately applicable, evidence-informed strategies to empower and support Black women in cultivating restorative practices that can foster liberation from depletion caused by racism. Leave equipped to ignite their innate power to not just survive but truly thrive in every facet of their lives.
Before the Breaking Point: Psychiatric Strategies for Prevention & Treatment
Host: Dr. Iman Hypolite
Info: This presentation is designed for therapists and mental health professionals who support high-functioning clients experiencing depression and anxiety. Psychiatric referrals are often delayed until clients are in crisis or not improving with therapy alone. This session reframes psychiatric consultation as a proactive, collaborative step in care—one that can lead to faster stabilization and more sustainable outcomes. Attendees will leave with greater confidence in identifying when a referral may be warranted, how to talk with clients about psychiatric care, and how to integrate psychiatric insights into a well-rounded, team-based approach to mental health.
Community Care x Community Wellness & Sound Therapy
Host: Dr. Kimber Shelton
Info: Our Trauma is Collective. Our Healing is Collective. Our Wellness is Collective. During this session, we will explore and engage in collective healing practices. We will focus on developing and strengthening sisterhood, identifying and countering divisive systems, and we will offer our bodies and minds somatic wellness through sound therapy.
Empowering Black Motherhood: Centering the Perinatal Needs of Black Women
Host: Dr. Mahlet Endale
Info: Black women and birthing people face unique challenges and disparities throughout the perinatal period that can significantly impact not just their mental health and well-being, but also their very lives and the lives of their babies. This panel brings together experienced perinatal mental health professionals to explore the intersection of race, gender, and maternal mental health.
