Doña Margarita, una dama de la alta sociedad, desea que su hijo Pablo se case con una mujer de su mismo estrato social. Sin embargo, Pablo está enamorado de la hija de la modista, con quien se casa en secreto gracias a la ayuda de un sacerdote amigo. La pareja continúa luchando contra los malévolos planes de la matrona. Tras un trágico accidente en el que Pablo mata accidentalmente al padrastro de su esposa, se ve obligado a huir a Europa. Años después, sin saber que tuvo un hijo, Pablo regresa y, gracias a su pequeño hijo, se reencuentra con el amor de su vida, desbaratando finalmente los perversos planes de su madre.
