The poetry reading will focus on Chicana (Mexican American Women). We welcome prior Madison Poet Laurate, Angie Trudell Vasquez, Dana Maya, and Melanie Hernandez. The open mic event promises to be an inspiring evening featuring local Wisconsin Chicana poets and offering a platform for community members to share their own poetic expressions. All are welcome to attend and participate in this celebration of Latino poetry and culture. This initiative, funded by a grant from The Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home (Link: https://www.loa.org/news-and-views/75-organizations-receive-grants-under-loas-latino-poetry-initiative/), invites participants into a nationwide conversation about Latino poetry, celebrating its distinctive rhythms, candor, and lyricism.
This initiative engages deeply with historical and mythic pasts, the complexities of language, land, and identity, and envisions a nation enriched by the stories of immigrants, exiles, refugees, and their descendants. Presented by the Library of America, this initiative is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and Emerson Collective.
