About this Event
Ulysses Missa is an a cappella musical adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses that subverts the structure of a Catholic Latin High Mass. Using the form of the Mass, it tells the story of Leopold Bloom as he confronts the inevitability of his wife, Molly’s, upcoming affair with Blazes Boylan. He feels hopeless until he encounters the young upstart, Stephen Dedalus who enables a true meeting of the minds. In the end, after all the ill-spoken about her, we finally hear from Molly herself about the affair. Celebrate one of the greatest works of modernist literature with sirens, prostitutes, a cyclops, the ghost of King Hamlet and his own father, and bullying barmaids. This timeless story features themes of self-sacrifice, individualism, metempsychosis, untraditional love and devotion, and the meaning of an artistic mind.
