Join us for an evening of weaving and celebration as we create festive ornaments to honor both the Christmas season and the time of Lono. Through hands-on making and shared stories, we’ll reflect on the themes of abundance, peace, and renewal that connect these seasons. Come learn, create, and enjoy community as we weave our way into the spirit of the holidays.

Kumu Bio: Kekaiokalani Naone is a Native Hawaiian artist and cultural practitioner dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of the land and ancestors through lauhala weaving. Rooted in Hawaiian traditions, their work emphasizes the deep connection between people and place, using the art of weaving to honor history and inspire stewardship. Each creation serves as a reminder that the well-being of the natural world is inseparable from our collective prosperity. Through the interlacing of hala leaves, they strive to foster meaningful relationships between people and their environment, ensuring that these ancestral practices continue to thrive for future generations.

Scissors and a positive attitude

Free Parking: There are six dedicated stalls to the front of the location that can fit up to 11 vehicles if cars are parked in tandem. Additional street parking is available near Teddy’s Bigger Burgers or across the street at Mōʻili’ili Park.

Paid Parking: Japanese Cultural Center: Parking availability varies from day to day and is dependent on the event schedule for the Mānoa Grand Ballroom. Arrangements must be made in advance.

Please indicate your need for additional parking when filling out the Hālau use request form when prompted.

Varsity Building Lot: Parking at Varsity is $1.00 for the first hour and $1.00 thereafter for each additional 20 minutes. The all-day rate is $6.00 (7am to 6pm). After hours is $4.00 flat rate and payment can be made in cash only via the paybox onsite.
