Celebrate Juneteenth with us on June 19th!Enjoy history, art, music, and soul food at Barry University with Dr. Tameka Hobbs and Mecca Grimo
About this Event

Join us on Wednesday, June 19th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Barry University for an immersive exploration of Liberation through Education and Cultural Creativity. In collaboration between Barry University and South Florida People of Color, this event will commemorate Juneteenth. We will delve into its historical significance alongside the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil War, Florida’s Emancipation Day (May 20th), July 4th, and the 13th Amendment. Dr. Tameka Hobbs will illuminate the true narrative of this pivotal moment in history, sparking critical thinking and fostering a deeper understanding.

But this event is more than just an educational experience; it's a celebration of freedom and liberation through art, poetry, and music. Community participants can engage in expressive arts, indulge in soul food, and be inspired by world-class performances, including a steel drum band, dance troop, and poetry. We are honored to host a special performance by Mecca a.k.a. “Grimo”.

Join us in honoring the past, celebrating the present, and fueling activism for the future.
