One of his comedies, The Tempest is the last fully written of Shakespeare's works and completely original in nature, The Tempest follows a group of individuals including the Duke of Milan that find themself shipwrecked on a magical island. We find out that the only inhabitants of the island are the mysterious sorcerer Prospera, who has caused the shipwreck for dubious reasons, his daughter Miranda, Prospera's magical servant Ariel, and the son of a witch, named Caliban. As the marooned travelers try to find each other and a way off the island they are tormented by Prospero through Ariel and some of them have encounters with Miranda and Caliban. The Duke's young son Ferdinand falls in love with Miranda and she with him. For them a budding romance begins while the rest of the cast is subject to Prospera and Ariel's hijinks, ultimately coming to an unexpected and dramatic conclusion.
