The popular, free live music showcase – UHD Thursday Night Concerts – makes its return to Discovery Green this May with weekly performances at 7 p.m. from May 2 through 23.
A myriad of genres, ranging from Latin and country to rock and more, spotlight some of the most talented and talked about musicians in Texas.
The UHD Thursday Night Concerts line-up includes:
Headliner: Theo Lawrence // Opening Acts: Kalu & The Electric Joint, The Creeps
French-Canadian singer-songwriter Theo Lawrence’s music is rooted in the country music songs of the 1950’s and 1960’s, borrowing elements from the soul, pop and rock and roll styles of the same era.
Kalu & the Electric Joint blends the power of psychedelic soul music with the driving beat of rock and roll and the ancient rhythms of Africa. Billboard describes their sound as “blending both West African and American brands of funk with bluesy grit and psychedelic ambience, along with a chin-out attitude.”
The Creeps draw inspiration from grunge, rock and heavy metal, blending these genres to create an energetic and thunderous sound. The hard rock and heavy metal band were the winners of the 2023 Discover Houston Music Showcase at Discovery Green.
Headliner: Vortxz // Opening Acts: Astragal, Blossom Aloe
Vortxz is a Latino band whose sound varies from new-age indie to alternative rock. Their music helps listeners escape into a world of hope, freedom and expression.
Named after the 1965 semi-autobiographic novel by Albertine Sarrazin, Astragal is a three-piece band that blends post-punk and indie-rock with pedal-soaked sounds for an entirely immersive experience. Recognized for their highly-dynamic live performances, Astragal has played on many stages, including Austin’s psychedelic Levitation Festival and Houston’s In Bloom Festival.
Blossom Aloe is an indie rock quintet that fuses elements of bedroom-pop, psychedelia and alternative rock into their sound.
Headliner: Mobley // Opening Acts: Joaquin and The Glowliners, Sugar Joiko
Mobley is an Austin-based songwriter, producer and visual artist. In addition to composing hits for stage and television, Mobley has toured with national and international recording artists and performed at high-profile festivals, including ACL and Lollapalooza.
Joaquin and The Glowliners is San Antonio’s original doo-wop soul group.
Sugar Joiko is a deft songwriter delivering a harmonious edge of soul meets synth wave.
Guests are welcome to bring blankets, camping chairs and snacks. Please leave alcohol and glass containers at home. Food, beer and wine are available for purchase at The Lake House.
