The UGA Soul Music Ensemble was originally founded in 2024 by music composition graduate student Jordan Askew for class credit at Hugh Hodgson. The program is overseen by James Weidman, assistant professor of jazz piano and African American Studies at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.
“The vision was to arrange and perform music from the genres of R&B, funk, rap, jazz and even local composers,” says Weidman.
