About this Event
The UCR Library, RAISE@UCR Institute, and the XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning invite you to the first AI Graduate Research Brown Bag Presentation.
This is an informal seminar series spotlighting AI research from UCR graduate students. This is a great opportunity to engage with emerging scholarship, ask questions, and connect with researchers pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence.
π Free pizza and refreshments provided!
Featured Presentations
Artificial Intelligence as Strange Intelligence Kendra Chilson, PhD Candidate in Philosophy Kendra will argue that the linear progression model of intelligence (Narrow AI < Artificial General Intelligence < Superintelligence) creates false expectations for AI development, and we must instead view AI systems as "spiky profiles" of mixed proficiencies that process information fundamentally differently from humans if we are to put them to good use.
NuclearGuard AI: Deep Learning-Based Radiation Anomaly Detection and Interactive Visualization Using Gamma-Ray Spectral Data Yung-Sian Fang, MBA Student, School of Business This presentation introduces NuclearGuard AI, an interactive nuclear safety dashboard that applies deep learning and anomaly detection to public gamma-ray spectral data. The prototype visualizes radiation spectra, anomaly scores, reconstruction errors, and spatial risk patterns to help identify suspicious radiological signals. Using Streamlit, Plotly, and machine learning models such as Isolation Forest and deep autoencoders, the project demonstrates how AI can support radiation monitoring, interpretable nuclear safety analysis, and operator decision-making.
