About this Event
Our route around UC Berkeley includes a mix of historic and modern architecture including some fascinating building interiors. We'll also view natural areas of the campus, including Strawberry Creek and specimen trees. The walk includes an optional ascent up Sather Tower (the Campanile) for great views!
This is one of the many walks featured in the 3rd edition of Berkeley Walks (Heyday Books) by Bob Johnson and Janet Byron
Leader
Bob Johnson
Total Distance
This is an easy to moderate walk of 3 miles, with about 225 feet in elevation change (not including the elevator and some steps in the tower).

Heavy rain cancels
Cost
The walk is free. The Campanile elevator costs $4-5 but accepts only credit cards or Apple Pay, no cash.
Where to Meet
We'll assemble at the southwest corner of Center and Shattuck in downtown Berkeley, next to the main BART exit. If you drive, you may be able to find street parking but pay attention to the posted restrictions and time limits. Downtown parking garages are another option: Berkeley parking garages
You may also park at a BART station such as Ashby or North Berkeley where parking is free on weekends and pay to take BART to downtown Berkeley.
Notes
Bring water, snacks, and lunch. Dress in layers and wear good walking shoes. If you have questions about this outing, please email Ken Lavin at [email protected].
