U19: Teen Spirit Edition Youth Fundraiser

Mass Poetry will be hosting a U19 Teen Spirit Edition: An Evening of Inspired Youth Fundraiser on Thursday, January 30th from 7:00 - 9:30 PM at Just Book-ish (1463 Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, MA 02122). This event will "takeover" our U35 Reading series for one night, converting it into a "U19" performance and fundraiser with a teen poetry showcase from our Teen Spoken Word Program, a feature from our Board Chair, Usman Hameedi, and an auction to raise money for our Teen Programming. This event will serve as the first fundraiser and official kickoff to our Road to BNV campaign, which will follow our teen poets as they compete for a spot on Mass Poetry’s Youth Slam Team at Mass Poetry’s Teen Spoken Word Festival, which aims to compete at Brave New Voices, an annual international youth poetry slam festival.

The auction will have five tiers of donation options to help fulfill BNV costs, including travel, food, registration, and more! This event aims to showcase the mighty voices of our young people and give inspiration as we all work through this collective change in our world. Mass Poetry aims to uplift all voices, especially our teen poets, in spite of our challenging times to show a path forward through expression and authenticity.

We invite you to come to soak up a night of inspirational poetry and support our fundraiser to continue to uplift our teen poets as we aim to bring them to this national stage at Brave New Voices! Light food and drink will be provided.

Tickets for admission into the fundraiser are structured to donate the amount that feels significant to you. You are welcome to donate as much as you like via EventBrite beyond the $1.00 minimum + tax. You may also donate in person at the fundraiser. with tiered payment options to act as a prior donation to the fundraiser. Please see our donation tiers below for more information about the resource categories for which we are raising funds. Tiers:

Tier V: Registration ($3,500)

• Support our teens and coaches by covering their registration fees for Brave New Voices (BNV). Your contribution ensures their place in this prestigious event.
• $500 covers the registration cost for one teen.

Tier IV: Hotel and Lodging ($3,000)

• Provide comfortable accommodations for our teens during BNV, giving them a safe and inspiring place to rest and prepare for the competition.

Tier III: Travel ($2,500)

• Help our team get to Madison, Wisconsin! This tier covers flights and ground transportation (e.g., Ubers, Lyfts, or taxis) so they can arrive ready to shine.
• $500 covers the flight cost for one teen.

Tier II: Food ($1,000)

• Fuel our young poets! This tier provides meals throughout BNV, ensuring they stay energized and focused.
• $100 covers four days of meals for one teen.

Tier I: Supplies ($400)

• $50 contributes to AV equipment or other preparation essentials.
• $25 buys a new poetry book for a budding writer.
• $10 purchases one notebook.
