After enduring several months of various symptoms Tyler saw an optometrist who, upon finding excessive fluid behind his eyes, then referred him to the ER. Once in the ER it was discovered that Tyler had a 4 cm cystic tumor in his occipital lobe. After being transferred to York Hospital a procedure was done to relieve the pressure. On March 19th another procedure was done in an attempt to remove the tumor however, some was left behind due to it being intertwined with critical cranial nerves and blood vessels. After surgery it was discovered his right vocal cords were paralyzed and a nasal feeding tube was placed. After a few days of recovery another surgery was done to place a permanent stent in his head to his stomach to continue to drain excess fluid. He is still receiving almost all nutrients via a feeding tube since he hasn’t been able to safely swallow post-op and he is still experiencing double vision. At this point the doctors do not believe his vision will ever be restored and the possibility of future total blindness hasn’t been excluded. On April 18th Tyler finally came home and is working aggressively with physical, occupational, and speech therapy to regain his weight, strength, mobility, speech and swallowing ability. This is an incredibly difficult journey Tyler has been through. The strength he's showing in the face of such uncertainty is truly remarkable. I can only imagine how challenging this is for him and his family, especially given his role as their provider, but his dedication to therapy and rehabilitation speaks volumes about his resilience. Even though the road ahead may feel uncertain, his determination is inspiring
