Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Tyler C.S. McGinnis didn’t begin pursuing music seriously until after high school, when a football scholarship brought him to Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. While completing his studies there, McGinnis began dedicating himself to songwriting and performing — a pursuit that would eventually reshape the direction of his life.
After graduating, he relocated to western Washington in 2017, where the Pacific Northwest’s vibrant music community helped him refine his voice as both a songwriter and performer. Drawing from personal experience and a deep appreciation for storytelling traditions, McGinnis crafts songs that blend Americana, alternative country, and Southern rock influences with a soulful melodic sensibility.
Known for his powerful and expressive vocals, McGinnis writes songs that move effortlessly between themes of reflection, resilience, love, and the unpredictable turns of life. His music invites listeners to sing along to a rowdy drinking song one moment and reflect on lost love or hard-earned lessons the next.
Since becoming a full-time musician in 2022, McGinnis has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest both as a solo artist and with his band The Hipocrats, which he co-founded alongside longtime collaborator Sarah Brunner. The band released their debut full-length album Friend Ship Joyride in August 2024, produced and mixed by Grammy-winning musician Chance McCoy (Old Crow Medicine Show).
Alongside his work with The Hipocrats, McGinnis has begun releasing his debut solo material — a collection of songs rooted in honest storytelling and modern Americana sensibilities. His recent singles, including Geronimo, Admiring Ghosts, & Like Make Believe, mark the beginning of a larger body of work that continues to explore risk, memory, and the moments that shape who we become.
Whether performing solo acoustic sets or full-band shows, Tyler C.S. McGinnis creates music meant to be felt as much as heard — songs for long drives, late nights, and anyone standing somewhere between where they’ve been and where they’re going.
