Tying for Performance with Rory Ropes

Welcome to Tying for Performance with Rory Ropes! Join us for a fun and interactive workshop where you'll learn the art of tying for rope performances. This workshop is dedicated to adapting harnesses and suspensions for more fluid motion and theory on dramatizing rope for viewing while still being present with each other. Other learning topics include narrative in ropes, quick release up lines and lock offs, variations on familiar harnesses for quicker tying, and what to think about for performances. Get ready to elevate your skills and creativity in a supportive and welcoming environment!

What: Tying for Performance

When: Friday, March 21, 2025; 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Where: Elevate Yoga & Wellness, 1001 N 3rd Ave, Suite 7, Phoenix, AZ 85003

Prerequisites: Participants are expected to know how to fully suspend from structural harnesses that both rigger and model are familiar with. Models/bottoms are also expected to be comfortable in suspension and know how to assess nerve & circulation issues.

Meet the Teacher: Rory Ropes, Anatomie Studio - London, UK

Rory’s (he/him) passion for Shibari flared when he visited Anatomie Studio in 2020. With a switchy background, Rory enjoys playful & dynamic rope and is a fan of incorporating body manipulation by the rigger alongside rope. Whether self-tying, double tying or labbing inventive new tie combinations, Rory likes to make sure his rope puts the model’s well-being and needs first. He believes that rope can be for every body and likes to adjust, learn and develop ties that enable those with injuries and disabilities to fully experience shibari. He can often be found working on the technical aspects of a tie/rope sequence in order to constantly develop his skills.
