The Nokore—pronounced noh-koh-reh—is an Adinkra symbol that is a powerful emblem of truth, integrity, and authenticity. Meaning “truth” or “truthfulness,” Nokore reflects the Akan belief that a person’s character is not merely spoken—it is lived, guiding actions, relationships, and leadership. Nokore reminds us that integrity is the foundation of trust and the path to lasting respect.

At TYA, we proudly embrace the spirit of Nokore by empowering young people to lead with honesty, confidence, and purpose. These values take center stage in our most powerful production yet: TYA’s 2026 Black History Show.

This awe-inspiring performance brings the stories of Africa and its global diaspora to life through dynamic storytelling, vibrant music, and expressive dance. It is a celebration of truth, resilience, and the voices that continue to shape our past, present, and future.
Feel the Freedom in Bahia
Witness the inspiring story of the Brazilian Baianas, whose entrepreneurial spirit led them to sell acarajés on the streets of Bahia—earning freedom for themselves and their families.

Feel the Rhythm of South Africa
Experience the electrifying energy of South Africa’s mines, where gumboot dancing emerged as both a powerful form of expression and a means of survival.

Celebrate the Joy of Coming of Age
Travel to West Africa for a vibrant celebration of youth through an exuberant coming-of-age dance, driven by the irresistible rhythms of dynamic youth drummers.

Through every beat, movement, and story, our BHS show shines with the joy, pride, and resilience woven into the fabric of African and African diasporic cultures.
Join us in honoring the enduring greatness and global impact of our people. Secure your tickets today—seating is limited!
