Catch Two Witches on their 35th Anniversary Tour, the only mid-west date! Hosted for 5 U.S. shows in the Eastern U.S. by compadres Jesucrisis, it will be a night of legendary gothic and deathrock from the far North to deep South (Finland to Jesucrisis origins in Chile).
BIOS:
Two Witches are pioneers of Finnish gothic, and legendary in the overall history of Gothic Rock. “Formed in 1987, these U.S. concerts with Jesucrisis are part of our 35 year anniversary tour-- along with concerts in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Sweden, among others. We have played hundreds of concerts around the world, in about 30 different countries on four continents, but only once in the US before this, headlining the Los Angeles Gothic Festival 2016. Our full-stage line-up is a six-piece (Alarik, Hermanni, Marko, Haydee Sparks, Miss Blueberry and me), but we are quite often playing as a trio (with Marko Hautamaki) or a quartet. Two Witches has released several albums with cult labels such as Nightbreed (UK), Deepland (Brazil), Scarecrow (MEX), Talitha (Germany), as well as three in the US on Cleopatra Records. Our full discography is at https://www.discogs.com/artist/109935-Two-Witches” (Jyrki Witch)
The band has a presence across YouTube, not only in their vintage videos of early years, but in many that demonstrate their intense live shows— ranging from full-stage six-piece to even acoustic trio in a small european church. All carry the same dynamism and unique gothic style that comes heftily from the stage presence of frontman and founder Jyrki Witch. (Jyrki actually founded the band with Anne Nurmi, who later went on to join Lacrimosa). The band has gone through line-up changes that were actually celebrated at their 30th anniversary five years ago, with several previous members appearing on stage together with current members. Marko Hautamaki is well known for his work on guitar, bass and programming duties with the band, and close teamwork with Jyrki (in addition to having separate doom metal and successful neoclassical project in which he brings his electric cello to the mix as well).
One can not fully know of Two Witches, however, without also being aware of the Lumous Gothic Festival that Jyrki founded, tirelessly coordinated and promoted for three decades, held every July in the band’s hometown of beautiful Tampere, Finland. It was the largest festival dedicated to the goth subculture in Finland and the northernmost Gothic festival in the world. The four-day event was also organized by those musicians around Jyrki’s orbit including his wife, TW keyboardist and dancer/performer in her own right, Miss Blueberry. While the primary focus of the Fest was on music, covering genres such as gothic rock, deathrock, industrial, EBM and neofolk, other cultural and arts events and local artist vendors were included. Lumous consisted mainly of club nights organized in bars and clubs in the centre of Tampere, and it gathered a storied reputation prior to its last show in 2020— especially for anyone who ever attended in the midnight summer sun, listened to Jyrki’s soulful opening night remarks, reveled in the crazy last-night party every year, and caught bands every bit as talented but of different mold and mindset than those forever playing Castle Party and Whitby every year. — Lisa Miles, with some inclusions by Last.FM
