TWO-BY-TWO TO THE HEAD
Warhammer: The Old World Team-Doubles Tournament
GENERAL INFO
WHERE: Imaginary Wars Gaming and Hobbies
WHEN: Sunday, July 19, 2026
WHAT: 3 Rounds, 1 Day
ENTRY FEE: $40 per player (includes lunch and snacks)
POINTS: 1000pts per player
FORMAT: Team-Doubles
(Fall back to Doubles, if the amount of teams doesn’t work out.)
CAPACITY: 16 players: 4 teams of 4.
(Fall back to 8 teams of 2, if the amount of teams doesn’t work out.)
Contact Imaginary Wars via FB messenger, email ([email protected]) or by phone (587-351-1939) to pay for a spot as a team, pair or single.
The Goal of this event is to have 4 teams of 4 playing in a doubles format. So each of the 3 rounds, you will have to play with a different member of your team of 4. Unfortunately, this means that we need at LEAST 14 players, so that I can ringer as a pair if necessary. I can’t ringer for more than that, so if we wind up with 13 or less players, we’ll fall back to a normal doubles tournament. So if you sign up as a full team of 4, please let me know which of you are in pairs if it turns into a doubles event.
ARMIES AND RESTRICTIONS:
YES, WE WILL BE USING THE RENEGADE PACK: https://www.squarebased.com/
If you are using a Legacy army, and don’t know what this is, please read it.
All Armies from Forces of Fantasy, Ravening Hordes, Legacy Army PDFs, and all Arcane Journals released before July 1st 2026 are allowed.
Each player’s army must all come from a SINGLE army list. No Allies. No Mercenaries.
All 4 Teammates must use different armies. (Different lists or sub armies don’t count as different armies. EG: for Dwarves, Royal Clan and Expeditionary Force do NOT count as different armies.)
Armies are limited to 1000 points.
We will be using the Grand Army, and Combined Arms rules from the Matched Play Book
Your army list should include all: upgrades, magic items, Spell Lores, etc and points costs; this is an Open List tournament.
Special Restrictions:
Brettonia: NO Green Knight
Vampire Counts: Maximum 2 Banshee’s Wails per army.
PLAYING AS A PAIR:
Each player has their own self contained army which must follow all of the regular rules for army restrictions and composition.
Both players in a pair share a turn and all phases. Make sure both players are done a phase before moving on.
Units from allied armies count as ‘friendly’ for the purposes of all rules, and the targeting of spells.
Character’s cannot join allied units.
Units from allied armies can panic each other, following all the normal rules for panic.
TEAM SHENANIGANS:
Should we get enough players for a 2x2 Team tournament (14-16), match making will be as follows:
At the start of the round, each team selects, in secret, their two pairings.
The same two players can never pair up more than once. So for the final game, the decision has already been made for you.
The Teams each nominate a player to roll a die on behalf of their team. The highest roll wins.
The winning team then has the option to choose which pairs from each team face each other (match-making), OR they can choose table side and who goes first for both tables.
OR, if both teams agree, they can randomize the match-making, and then each table can roll for table side and who goes first like normal.

JUDGES AND TOURNAMENT SPACE
If you and your opponent hit an impasse on a ruling, you are welcome to ask a judge. Judge’s rulings are FINAL.
Terrain and tables are set up in advance by the TOs. Please DO NOT move the terrain or adjust the tables. If you have questions about what a piece of terrain is, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Tables are 6’x4’.
MISSIONS
Missions will be announced the morning of. (I can’t as easily put out a mission pack before I know if it’s Doubles or Teams.)
Pro-tip: It will be HEAVILY based off of the doubles missions in the Matched Play guide, either way.
PLAYER'S AGREEMENT AND CONDUCT
Imaginary Wars is a space where everyone is welcome. That being said, there is a 0 tolerance policy for hate speech, or verbal abuse of any kind, etc.
Any of the above will result in an IMMEDIATE EJECTION FROM THE TOURNAMENT, and possibly a ban from the store. There will be NO REFUNDS for ejected players.
By signing up, you are agreeing to the above.
PAINTING AND MODELING
First, please note that Imaginary Wars does not allow the use of 3d printed models on its tables. (3D models do not support your local gaming store.) Bits and bases are fine, but whole models are not.
Ideally, we’d love it if everyone had official GW models, but we know that’s not realistic.
If you use models from other companies, they must strongly resemble the official models they are replacing, and your opponent should be in no doubt about what they are. If you have any questions about this, please contact us in advance.
Each player’s army should be AT LEAST 50% GW models.
All of your models must be completely built.
Your army must be painted to a 3 color minimum, and your bases must be painted or textured.
The 3 colors must cover the vast majority of the model; Primer should not be the primary visible color.
BASE SIZES
Your models MUST be on the sizes list in their army book.
You are welcome to use converters if your models are still on older base sizes. If you use trays on conversion bases for multiple models, those trays need to make it clear where the corners of each model SHOULD be so that there is no ambiguity about which models are in base-to-base contact in combat.
The new rules also include some weird caveats for older warmachines and things like the Anvil of Doom have no actual base size… Please just… be reasonable…
WYSIWYG
Units should be armed properly with the weapons on the army lists. MORE than half the models in a unit should be armed properly, not counting the unit’s command models. Re: Your opponent should know what they are by looking at them.
Characters have more flexibility in terms of equipment, but different character types (wizards vs melee) in your army should be easy to differentiate and your BSB should be modeled with a banner.
TL;DR:
It is up to you to make sure your opponent always knows what your units are. It is not their job to memorize a pile of different ‘counts as’ models.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Be respectful of your opponent.
Please show up on time each game and for registration: 8:30am.
Be honest with your play.
Keep the clock in mind. 2:55 per round should be enough time for both teams to deploy, and finish at least 5 full rounds; 6 more often than not.
YOU SHOULD BRING
- Yourself
- Your teammate(s)
- Your army
- Tape measure, dice, rule books, scatter dice, templates, movement trays, corner markers, and any other tools you need to play the game.
- Copies of your army list. One for each opponent (or digital), one for the TO and one for your own reference.
(Make sure your name and the army list you’re using is on it.
There's no set list format, but your opponent should be able to easily skim a half page list to know what is in your army.)
EG: Elf Lord: General, Shield, Giant’s Bane, Talisman of shielding - 213 pts
Elf Spearmen x 20: Shields, Mus, Chmp, Stand, Drilled - 590 pts
If you aren’t sure, please send us your list in advance. We are happy to review them.
AWARDS
IF we get rough for a team tournament; there will only be one set of 4 awards for the best overall team. Note that this will include painting and sportsmanship scores!
