TORMENT
Just in case death-core grind machine Torment didn’t already have enough concrete crushing noise power to take down the Thomson Dam, they added a fifth member for its 2023 Homegrown performance. Ears are still bleeding. Led by bearded shriek-master Caden Dudek, Torment includes Connor Slawson on bass, Andrew Olson on drums and now a pair of wrecking ball guitarists: battle-tested veteran Kyle Rudd-Pulkinen and newcomer Matt Erickson. A follow-up to the 2022 full-length Swallow Your Teeth is planned in 2024. Flood warnings will be issued down-scream.
SUREFIRE
Surefire, an ascending heavy metal and metalcore band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has rapidly earned respect and attention within the ranks of the Midwestern scene. With an aggressive energy and riveting lyrics, the band has seized the interest of audiences and critics.
The EP "Holehearted" illustrates Surefire's emergence as a standout, featuring the popular singles "Heartsick" and "Scars." Their late release, "Salt The Wound," reflects the band's progress and confidence in its evolving sound. The band is currently producing and recording its second EP, which is already projected to surpass the success of the first.
INFLICT
The band Inflict has created a lot of fan frenzy with their latest numbers that have got immaculate heavy metal sounds. The band has belted out magnificent songs like ‘You Will Be Alone’, ‘Manipulate//Segregate’ and ‘Fear the World’. The band members own an avant-garde production house called ‘Inflict’ with state of the art facilities. Derek Petricka is a major member of the band. All these years, the band members have been influenced by top-class music legends like Mike Hranica. They are very much bug-bitten by his immaculate style of music. The members of the band create their songs with a lot of panache and finesse that has left an indelible impression on the listener’s mind. They have got the credential of creating some of the most memorable songs like ‘I Will Survive’, ‘Sink’, ‘Waste Away’ and ‘Brain Dead’ that are etched in the audience’s memory.
SHADOWS OF ME
Shadows of Me is a metalcore project that began in 2005 when Rick Chida and Cory Christofferson began writing music together. They were soon joined by Ryan Gundstrom on the drums and Matt Erickson on bass. Influences of the 2000s era post-grunge and nu-metal are found woven throughout their sound. The band released their album Aurelia, in March 2023.
PRONOYA
Setting the tone for vigorous handbanging and tossing around, metalcore band Pronoya formed in 2020. The group features Kyle Wolden and William Richardson on guitar, Connor Slawson on electric bass, Loren Dawson on hard-rock drums and Ryan Walkes handling the screaming. They have released five singles. The most recent, “Sever,” was mixed by Wolden and mastered by Mike Kalajian. In August, Pronoya was featured by the Duluth Ballet in its Emerging Performing Artist Series. Since then, these metalheads have been meticulously crafting their debut EP, set to release this year.
THROW ME THE REMOTE
Don’t touch that dial. Throw Me the Remote cranks up the volume and shakes down the house with raucous riffs, hardcore punk energy and a hint of outlaw edge. There is no down button on this remote. It only gets louder. Kevin Haglund’s vocals charge along with Daniel Haglund’s distortion heavy guitar and John Leppke’s driving bass. Keeping rhythm is Aurora Grund’s blasting drums. Throw Me the Remote has played several recent shows in the Twin Ports, keeping that North Shore hardcore in action.
