About this Event

‘Twelve Live Performance Artists, Twelve Artworks of Our Time’ is an urgent and timely programme involving twelve performance artists and one designer, discussing socio-politically sensitive subjects, materials and societies, post-humanism, and displacement and memories of home. We are presenting pertinent artworks by independent artists that would not have the chance to present otherwise at this time, to showcase and project our new visions for the coming (post)-pandemic world.

A combination of artists from various live performance disciplines, we devise and present experimental score-based improvisation works where the artists perform for each other. This is a response from us towards the reopening of the art venues and an investigation into new ecology for independent artists to share resources and find the space for presentation.

We become prophets of new beliefs and values. We transform the space with bravery. We step in and make changes.

Background

Ghost and John received a residency from London Performance Studios in Bermondsey through ‘Seeding Space’ for rehearsing a project that got delayed until 2022. Watching art venues opening as the policy eases and thinking about independent artists struggling through the pandemic, we decided not to rehearse for a far-away show, but invite colleagues to join us in this research towards how independent artists can make pivotal moves to both the art world and the current society.

We are all bringing in performance scores that are pertinent. The purpose of presenting experimental contemporary theatre works is not only to make artistic proposals and criticise society, but also suggest how we can see life differently: finding new lifestyles, new ways to understand the others and for us to contemplate on complex issues. It is vital at this time as the art venues are opening up. It is precisely the time for us to imagine and demonstrate how things can be done alternatively in this new era.
