An annual favorite, Columbus’s own The Early Interval returns with their Twelfth Night concert. This year’s performance is devoted to music by female composers, cloistered nuns from 17th century Italy. It will make for a fascinating historical trip through music that lay dormant until the 1980’s.
Nuns who entered convents in the 17th century often came from aristocratic families and had substantial musical training as children. Often forbidden to ever leave once they entered as nuns, we now know of the flourishing of musical activity within certain northern Italian convents where these talented women were allowed to continue to grow in their artform.
