If you’re the parent of a tween or teen girl, you’ll be seeing them morph from the little girl you once knew into someone new and, possibly, unrecognisable to you. Their brains, hormones, bodies and physiological make-up are transforming rapidly – and these changes can affect moods, decision-making, body shape, attitudes and self-identity. Add in the demands of school life, peer group judgement and a 24/7 digital environment, and it can be a turbulent time – they deserve our understanding and support.
Join us for this informative talk with Dr Natalie Hutchins, a passionate supporter of female health who has cared for adolescent girls for many years in Hong Kong and Singapore. There’ll be a Q&A session with other parents keen to learn how best to support their daughters. If you have questions you’d like Dr Natalie to address, please email us at [email protected]
Topics covered in the talk will include:
Hormonal changes in adolescent girls
Development of the brain and how this can influence her decision making
Peer groups, friendships and navigating toxicity
Development of self-respect, self-worth and alarm bells for eating disorders
Physical changes including periods, acne, body changes and developing sexual identity
Becoming sexually informed – contraception, STI’s and consent
Mental wellness including depression, anxiety, panic attacks and how to identify what’s ‘normal’
Pressures on girls from social media
