Turning the Page on Helene is a community-based art project that is using the transformative power of altered books to tell our communities’ stories of Hurricane Helene through the visual arts. The goal is to create a safe space for community members to share experiences of the hurricane as well as their hopes for rebuilding a better and brighter future. Participants help co-create community altered books by making pages that capture their experiences of the storm. For more information visit turningthepageonhelene.com.
Angela Modzelewski, ATR-P, is an art therapist with a Masters in Counseling and Art Therapy from West Liberty University and an undergraduate degree in Fine Art from Carnegie Mellon University. She works to support the community by facilitating therapeutic, arts-based workshops and events within the French Broad River Basin and the Upstate. Angela believes that the process of making art is more significant than the end result. Art is for everyone!
