Turning Thai fact into fiction

Schedule

Wed May 29 2024 at 07:00 pm

Location

Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand - FCCT | Bangkok, BM

Paul and Yuangrat Wedel recently launched ‘Dark karma’, the second in their ‘Beads on a string’ trilogy set in southern Thailand. The latest book follows key characters from the first as the region experiences Malay unrest, competition for control of the gambling business, political change and the impact of a global pandemic. Not a few of these themes still resonate today.
The Wedels, one of the best respected and most productive Thai-Western writing teams, will discuss how they developed characters and used fictionalized storytelling to give readers insights into little-known aspects of Thai history. They will also compare their work process for novels with their earlier non-fiction historical book, ‘Radical thought, Thai mind.’
