Speaker Information: The citizens of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation elected David W. Hill as the seventh Principal Chief in the modern era of tribal government on December 7, 2019.

Throughout his first term in office, Chief Hill’s leadership has brought the tribe global recognition for its proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the Nation’s fierce battle to uphold sovereignty in the wake of the historic Supreme Court decision affirming the Muscogee Reservation.

Chief Hill’s leadership was recognized by TIME Magazine, as he was named one of 2020’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Chief Hill has also been a policy trailblazer at the tribe’s headquarters for employees, implementing the Nation’s first maternity leave initiative in history, offering a buy back program for unused leave and re-instituting sick leave donation between employees.

Prior to being elected Principal Chief, Hill served three consecutive four-year terms as a representative of the tribe’s legislative body, the National Council.

During his 12-year tenure, Hill’s Council experience included membership on the Tribal Affairs Committee; Business, Finance and Justice Committee; the Internal Affairs Committee; and the River Spirit Casino/Hotel Expansion Oversight Committee.

Hill’s colleagues also selected him, for two terms respectively, as National Council Sergeant-At-Arms and Second Speaker.

Prior to his political career, Principal Chief Hill spent 30 years in the aerospace industry, including 23 years in Management. He was also elected for terms as both member and President of the Depew Public Schools Board of Education.
