A somewhat aesthetic void seems to have overtaken contemporary photography, with the medium being frequently deployed to beautify, hide, and camouflage the 'desert of the real'. Each subsequent narrative, mostly battled for on the field of social media, seems more important than the one preceding, activism thus becoming more a fad rather than a practice. Frequently the photographer's role thus becomes one of a politicized albeit passive nature: post a selfie, post Gaza, post Ukraine, post protests and soundbites, post another selfie and go out with some friends for dinner while waiting for validation in the form of little red hearts. But what's in front of us all, on a daily basis, often seems to be conveniently forgotten and willfully overlooked. The Burden Of Proof proposes a return to ugliness and to that very original function of photography: to bear witness, to gather the evidence of the times, and to argue against the loss of memory.
