Tucson’s Changing Seasons: Phenology in Action

All around us we see the ever-changing life events in the plants and animals of our Sonoran Desert environment. Phenology is the study of these changes, with particular note taken of the impact climate change is having on all living things. Join Master Gardeners as we take you on a guided tour of our Demonstration Gardens, teaching you how to observe - and record – these ever-changing life events.

There are two ways you can become a Citizen Scientist.

1. You will receive information in this workshop on how to join the National Phenology Network (NPN) at the U of A, and then send observation data about plants and animals in your own yard or neighborhood. The NPN maintains an ever-growing database that is used by researchers around the world!
2. Or you may simply (and wonderfully) enhance your appreciation of changes you observe in nature without joining the NPN program.

Workshop attendees will take home: phenology observation charts, helpful articles,

a Tucson phenology almanac, and directions from the NPN on how to start your own home phenology trail.

Join us for an amazing observational experience as future phenologists!

Please wear a hat and bring a water bottle. Consider bringing a portable chair if you’d

be more comfortable seated as we move through the garden portion of the workshop.

The workshop will take place rain or shine.
