Musical Style: Contemporary Jazz Denver composer, guitarist, and bassist Tucker Smidt's music is steeped in a love for all forms of American music, from the traditional to the avant-garde. A student of such titans as Ron Miles, Dave Devine, and Dave King, Smidt's eclectic style is marked by frequent meter shifts, bold harmonic language, and a unique melodic voice that draws on both the old and the new.
Having led the jazz/funk-fusion band Space Force for many years, this performance will see Tucker debut a new group that showcases his more jazz-forward and avant-garde work, including selections from his debut album, "Are We Doin' Idt???", released earlier this year.
