TUBE FILM w/ The Creative Nonfiction Film Weekend

Filmmaking is a versatile form - sometimes it's art, sometimes it's truth, a lot of the time it's profit fodder. What if there were a way that we could use the moving image for more personal ends? Outside of Nathan Fielder and his big-budget paranoid fantasies of perfectionism, what if the cinematic apparatus could be used as a vehicle for discovering more about 'the self'?

TUBE FILM by Kimia Ipakchi and Orla Smith is one such film, a work which dares to discover the limits of the cinema and the self simultaneously!

We follow Orla as she tries to overcome her fear of travelling via the London Underground. Captured by her friend/collaborator/ally Kimia on a sunny bank holiday, we take a journey with them as the filmmaking process becomes a therapeutic/confrontational act of self-exploration and interrogation.

Though we have been conditioned to the sights and sounds of the 'tube' through years of London-centric programming and filmmaking, this intimate/personal/claustrophobic odyssey through the underbelly of the big smoke is a challenging yet inspiring work of filmmaking. The camera holds us accountable, and this can be a good thing actually!

This screening is a collaboration between Normal Cinema Club and The Creative Nonfiction Film Weekend.

The Beanbag Cinema is a micro-cinema venue situated on the ground floor with a gender-neutral restroom. Please get in touch with any questions about accessibility. Doors will open at 3.30pm, with the event beginning shortly after 4pm. This is a strictly 18+ event.
