Our Winter Lecture Series continues with Tsunamis and Survival; What to Know About Lincoln County. This talk by Dr. George R. Priest will emphasize how to survive tsunamis caused by distant and local earthquakes whether you are on land, docked, or on the water. Oregon, Washington, and northern California are vulnerable to tsunamis from earthquakes on the Cascadia subduction zone and other subduction zones around the Pacific. Local tsunamis will arrive in minutes after a Cascadia earthquake which can be as large as magnitude 9 with a minute or more of strong shaking. The main tsunami warning will be the earthquake itself. Tsunamis from the closest distant subduction zone in the Gulf of Alaska will take ~4 hours to strike Lincoln County, leaving adequate time for the NOAA tsunami warning system to give appropriate guidance. Much of the information in the talk can also be found at the website http://www.oregontsunami.org/.
Food available! The lecture starts at 6pm, but doors open at 5:30 for anyone who wants to order dinner delivered from Siren's Lure Teahouse and Bakery. Menu and prices will be added below soon. You will be able to add your menu choices on during registration.
This presentation is otherwise free to attend if you are not ordering food. Registration is appreciated, but not required unless you are ordering food.
