About this Event

TSISMIS + CHEESECAKE is a community listening session for those who have connections to the Chinatown-International District area. We will dream, vision, and get updated about what is happening at King Street Station: new orgs are moving into the neighborhood! Moonyeka will be holding a container for community members to freely express their hopes, concerns, and thoughts about programming and relationship building with the stewards of the new space: The Rhapsody Project x Red Eagle Soaring x Totem Star!

“Tsismis” is a Tagalized spelling of the Spanish word “chismes (pl; chisme, singular)”, as “gossip”

About the Venue:

"flower flower is a neighborhood arts "greenhouse" where community stories flourish, and creative expression is nurtured, cultivated, and resourced.

We are a collective of queer and trans, Pasifika and Asian artists and cultural workers who aim to create accessible, thriving art spaces in the Chinatown International District for our communities to heal and grow together."

About the Facilitator:

Moonyeka (they/them/Angel) is a nonbinary Filipinx femme performance shapeshifter, witch, teaching artist, curator, scholar, and interdisciplinary artist with a specialty in dance. Moonyeka currently serves as the Storytelling Strategist + Project Manager for The Rhapsody Project. Moonyeka is one of Velocity Dance Center’s 2022 Creative Residents where they are creating CENSORED, a research process centering QT + POC show girl histories, re-mything work + divination collaborations of Aswang* Filipinx spirits, the whorearchy, performance intelligences, systems, and technologies of artist working girls.

As apart of their Base residency Moonyeka will be doing an audiovisual + dance research of Harana, a Filipinx serenade song form that centers courtship rituals, and more unpopularly, grief rituals.

Moonyeka's past interdisciplinary performance works include BASTOS(2017), BASTOS TALAGA (2018), In The White Frame (2018), Inang Bayan (2019), SIN-EATER (2021), Mother of Pearl (2022) which have been presented in festivals, living rooms, queer night clubs, Velocity Dance Center, On The Boards, Heidi Duckler's (MAP), Risk/Reward, Museum of Museums, BASE, Seattle Center, across diaspora and beyond.

Moonyeka is also one of the co-curators for Nightlight, a full moon ritual, performance event and dance party in partnership with Velocity Dance Center.

Amongst many projects and collaboration Moonyeka shapeshifts as a songstrexx/lyricist/performer of The Gender Tender Experiment. If you're extremely lucky (by tipping $100 bills) you may see their baby drag persona, Neon Orchid grace the Queer Trans stages of Seattle with the Melted Forest, a psychedelic creature forest drag house led by Fox Whitney.

You can find out more about upcoming performances + group courses such as Aswang Movement Incantations, SLITHER: a sensual movement practice, Q TUTS, and other offerings by following them on:
