About this Event
Join us for a delightful plant walk at Trout Lake, where curiosity and a sense of wonder are our guides. These walks are designed for all ages and learning levels, inviting everyone to slow down, enjoy nature, and discover the fascinating world of plants. Together, we’ll observe and learn about native plants through a fresh lens, fostering community connections and relishing the beauty of the outdoors. Whether you're a seasoned plant enthusiast or just beginning your botanical journey, these walks are a perfect way to explore and connect with nature in a fun and accessible way.
Plant taxonomy, or the study of plant identification and classification is a large branch of science. While we will touch on aspects of the identification process and how to "key" a plant out, the objective of this walk is to notice the characteristics of plants, observe and relate them to other plants. This is a fundamental part of ID'ing anything in the wild for fun, foraging or scientific classification. We will also have the opportunity to discuss how plants may have been used in traditional medicines, foods or industry. Ultimately, the goal is to have fun, be curious and slow down while enjoying nature!
Donation & Accessibility:
This is a by-donation plant walk, however, no one will be turned away for a lack of funds. Recommended donation is $5-20/person, however, we encourage you to pay whatever is within your comfort at this time. Donations can be made in cash or on Eventbrite.
This will require some walking but a lot of our time will be standing or sitting, discussing and identifying a plant for some time. If you may need extra support, please let us know and we will do our best to support you.
