Our concert series continues with local violinist, Er-Gene Kahng, and several of her bandmates from the Khemia Ensemble. This show will be an engaging program of contrasting solo works from the 20th and 21st centuries written for flute, clarinet, violin, piano, and percussion, performed in the Walker Community room.
Er-Gene Kahng is a violinist, researcher and Full Professor of Violin and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She is also the concertmaster of the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra and the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra. Her goal is to continue the work of equity, diversity and inclusion by exploring the ways contemporary American classical music can intersect with, and highlight, forgotten narratives of the past and thus shape the musical values of the present and future. You can find her online here.
Derived from the Ancient Greek word χημεία (chemistry), the Khemia Ensemble is a contemporary chamber music ensemble based in the United States that consists of artist educators who believe in representing a diverse range of voices in contemporary classical music. They dedicated to reflecting broader perspectives in contemporary classical chamber music by presenting engaging performances, commissioning new works, and mentoring the next generation of musicians.
Trillium Salon Series is a non-profit organization "dedicated to taking music off the stage and into intimate and unusual settings, which blurs the line between performer and audience and invites intimate connection all through the conduit of amazing music for one-of-a-kind moments than can only be described as Trillium Salon Series experiences."
