This month, the one-shot is a homebrew adventure written by Dungeon Master Ryan Lessard called “Trials of the Red Acolytes,” which offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the infamous Red Wizards of Thay. (Everyone plays an evil wizard!) Set in the Forgotten Realms, each player is a student in a subterranean wizard school in the eastern nation of Thay, which trains only the most powerful and capable Red Wizards in this evil magocracy. In order to graduate and earn the mantle of Red Wizard, you and fellow acolytes must complete the trials of The Needle, the lowest point in an inverted underground wizard tower. Not everyone will survive the trials, but those who do will earn their place in the order and enjoy a prominent station in the lich tyrant Szass Tam’s empire.
Players must bring a 3rd level wizard character who is either a human or elf, with the evil alignment. You may follow the official character creation rules as written in the Player’s Handbook or Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.
