Triad Transplants—Songwriters in the Round

In the past few years, the Triad area has gained three acclaimed songwriters who have moved here from other areas of the country. We thought it would be fun to celebrate these fine new members of our music community, so we invited them to our stage for a songwriter-in-the-round concert. All three artists will be on the stage together, taking turns performing their original songs.
MARE CARMODY is a voice of Southern songwriting, having lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas and North Carolina over the years, and believes that life is a song, or many songs! She relocated from Asheville to the Piedmont in 2024.
TOM GHENT left home in 1962 at the age of sixteen to pursue a career in folk music on Providence’s vibrant coffeehouse scene. By 1964, he was living in Greenwich Village during the heyday of the folk revival, performing his songs alongside Phil Ochs, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Paxton and Bob Dylan. He hit Los Angeles in 1968 which led to the release of his first major label album, the self-titled Tom Ghent, but was back in New York by 1969. There, he was encouraged by Kris Kristofferson to move to Nashville where he quickly made his mark as a songwriter and session musician. In 1970, Nat Stuckey scored a major hit with Tom’s “Whiskey, Whiskey” which led to the release of a second album, Yankee’s Rebel Son for Kapp/MCA. Along the way, Tom’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists including Charlie Louvin, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Bare and Kristofferson.
GLENN TORRICO is a recent arrival to North Carolina. He hails from far away places like New York , Maine, Arizona and Florida. An expressive singer-songwriter and accomplished guitarist. Songs reflect diverse moods and styles such as blues, country, ragtime and early jazz. You can call it Nostalgic Americana. He plays kid’s songs, comedic songs and some heartbreak country just to make sure you're listening.
HOW TO ATTEND THE SHOW:
As with all Doodad Farm events, this one is FREE. Donations are requested, with every penny going to the musicians. For this show, we’re asking a donation of $15-$20. EVERYONE is invited! The :show starts at 7:30pm, but you’re welcome to show up as early as you want for a picnic, a walk in the woods, or just hanging with your friends.
DETAILS:
• Doodad Farm is a safe place where we welcome all people.
• Pets are also welcome as long as they cause no trouble.
• Please bring CASH for donations and merch purchases.
• Bring your own beverages, picnics, whatever you want. Bring a chair, also.
• Smoking is permitted as long as you don’t bother anyone or do any butt-dropping.
• Please clean up after yourself and treat the Farm as if it’s your own (in a way, it is!).
• Toilets and drinking water will be available.
• Let someone help you park, especially if the field is wet.
• We do not permit weapons of any sort, nor is there ever a need for them.
