About this Event
Join the Forestry Commission and Raise during National Tree Week for a practical woodland walk and talk at Welton Farm, near Carlisle. We’ll explore how planting trees within working farmland can strengthen livestock systems and improve the long-term resilience of farm businesses.
Welton Farm is a working sheep farm that Mr Jim Campbell has farmed as a tenant for the past three years. He has planted over 3,350 trees which have been incorporated into new hedgerows, a small block of mixed woodland, and areas of in-field agroforestry.
There will be a short talk from Mr Campbell about his tree planting and why he wanted trees on his farm. Throughout the walk, there will be an opportunity to see the woodland, hedgerows and agroforestry at Welton Farm and to learn about the support provided by Raise throughout the project. There will also the chance to find out about grants available for woodland creation and agroforestry from both Raise and the Forestry Commission.
This will be a relaxed, informal event for farmers and landowners interested in the role trees can play in productive landscapes.
