Tree walk at Sheffield General Cemetery

This wonderful place is a peaceful oasis close to the heart of the city and it is known for its fine specimen trees, some of which are uncommon in other parts of the city.

The main themes for this walk will be tree ID, the woodland history of this designed landscape, plus Victorian planting choices and what they mean.

All attendees will be provided with a link to a downloadable tree ID sheet prepared to accompany the walk. This lists the key tree species that are found in this location and the characteristics by which they can be identified. We will also be on the lookout for notable and veteran trees – tape measures will be provided to help establish their age.

This walk is part of a series hosted by Sheffield Woodland Connections throughout the city.

Adult tickets are £8 plus booking fee, kids go free.

Although the majority of the paths are accessible, the route will include some moderate slopes. Meet at the gatehouse entrance at the end of Cemetery Avenue– 5 minutes before the stated start time. If arriving by car, please leave plenty of time to ensure you can find suitable on street parking.
