Elmwood Cemetery is not only a historic burial ground. It is also a Level II arboretum and home to nearly 1,400 trees that form a living, breathing landscape. While many of these trees are tagged with their names, there is far more to discover than what appears on the label. Some of Elmwood’s trees are older than the cemetery itself. They have stood quietly through generations of change, witnessing the growth of Memphis while enduring storms, seasons, and centuries. Each tree has a story to tell, if you know how to listen.
Join us for a special guided Tree Tour led by Elmwood’s resident tree expert, Amanda Zorn. During this engaging and educational walk, Amanda will introduce you to some of our most remarkable trees, explain their unique characteristics, and share why they matter to Elmwood’s history and future. Along the way, she will also be happy to answer your questions about the cemetery and its past.
The tour will take place on March 28th, beginning at 10:00 am, and will last approximately 90 minutes. The cost is $20 per person. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. We invite you to slow down, look up, and experience Elmwood from a new perspective.
