In this tree tour, discover the different ways that the outdoors—and specifically the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum - makes us healthy. We’ll cover the health benefits of the outdoors, public parks, green spaces, of certain plants and herbs, and even the Fountain of Youth! We’ll also talk about the wealth behind and generated by the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail, and who stands to benefit from its health effects. We’ll tie all of that in with Atlanta history, stretching back through the city’s founding and up through the present day.About the Tour Guide: Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, PA, Dan Rzewnicki is an Emory University resident in internal medicine with a background in public health who loves the outdoors. When not working, you might find him hiking, biking, or practicing yoga. He lived right off this section of the Atlanta Beltline when he moved to the City, so it’s a special place that he often explored on foot, was his launching pad to learn more about Atlanta history, and was even where he spent quite a bit of time getting to know his now fiancée, Megen.
About the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum: The Atlanta Beltline Arboretum currently has 9,000 accessioned plants in its collection, with 369 unique tree and shrub species and cultivars. Eighty-eight genera of trees and shrubs are represented and identified with permanent signage. Additionally, over 500,000 non-accessioned live grasses, vines, and wildflowers have been planted within the Arboretum since 2013, along with 1,600 pounds of seeds of native plants sown in the meadow spaces.
