For children ages 8–12 (and their parents and guardians).

Tree-planting workshop with Stephanie Keeler and Derek Stone (The Riverwood Conservancy); and artmaking activity with Minoya Magendrathajan (Visual Arts Mississauga).

What does a tree do for its neighbours? In this kid-friendly workshop participants will learn the importance of trees in the Credit Valley watershed—for cleaning and purifying water preventing soil erosion mediating water temperature and providing sustenance and habitat for wildlife. The group will then plant trees on the Riverwood grounds with advice on how best to do so from environmental educators followed by an artmaking activity exploring the trees at Riverwood. Participants will draw collage and use printmaking techniques to create DIY upcycled nature journals.

This event will be held rain or shine with indoor facilities available in case of inclement weather. Accessible public washrooms and seating are available. Drinks and refreshments will be provided. Physical distancing will be in place for this event and additional safety precautions may be required in line with public health measures. This event will feature some walking on grass and unpaved trails. Dogs are not permitted.
